Domain Names

A domain name is your address on the web.  Instead of the unique numerical address your computer uses to find a webpage, domain names allow us humans to make sense of where we want to go – it’s the bit after “www”!

Our design packages come with a FREE .co.uk domain name (if you need one).

Many names are already taken, so please discuss options with your consultant.

If you want a different type of domain name, .com, .org etc. we can advise you on their availability, pricing, and the rules for their use.

Some customers register a domain name before coming to us.  That’s fine, and we can help you to redirect when its time to connect to your website, but we have got to warn that some domain registrars offer very cheap domain registration, but the true cost comes when you try to use the domain for something with release fees, redirect fees etc.  Please discuss with our consultants before registering anything yourself to avoid the common pitfalls.

Where we register your domain name for you, this is done via our own ISP www.namesandspace.net

Registration is in your own name (so you can transfer the name/website elsewhere whenever you want in the future) and, all the time you’re using our hosting/support services we’ll take care of re-registation etc. for you (to prevent your name falling into the hands of “domain pirates” who pounce on domains names which have temporarily fallen out of active registration and then sell them back to you at greatly inflated prices).
