essential for e-commerce sites
https for your website
SSL certificates turn your http site into https. https is much more secure and is used by devices attempting to connect with your website to verify the web server’s identity.
SSL certificates are uniquely matched to the website’s domain name and often to the person/organisation registering it.
Our Paypal and Stripe e-commerce solutions come with an SSL cerificate as standard, but as an SSL certificate gives credibility to other sites and is looked at positively by search engines, many website owners choose to add them to other websites too. Now that the Chrome browser (and others) specifically mark a website as “not secure” at the top of the screen as opposed to just not showing the “padlock” symbol indicating that it is, for some websites/owners, this is more important than ever.
Most SSL certifcates are issued by a Certificate Authority. The CA is a trusted third party organisation which verifies your identity before releasing your certifcate. It is also possible to use self-signed SSL certificates, but these often result in visitor’s browser showing a “not secure” message as identity cannot be properly verified.
Our full add-on SSL certificates start at just £19 + VAT per year for a certificate shared between multiple domains and we handle all the configuration for you. We can also provide enhanced SSL certificates issued from a CA in your own company name from just £299 + VAT per year. These enhanced certificates require many more checks on the website owner and so have longer timescales.
